History of the Sons

Founded in 1932, the American Legion Georgia History of the Sons is a subsidiary organization of the American Legion that aims to honor veterans and support their families. The Sons play an integral role in upholding the core values of the American Legion while also fostering a sense of camaraderie amongst its members.

The American Legion Georgia History of the Sons traces its roots back to World War I, when the American Legion was established to advocate for the rights and needs of veterans. Initially, the American Legion was open only to men who served in the Armed Forces during the war, and it wasn’t until later that the Sons of the American Legion was formed as a separate entity.

The purpose of the Sons is to assist the American Legion in its various activities and programs, while also developing its own initiatives to support veterans and their families. The Sons actively participate in memorial ceremonies, parades, and community service projects, aiming to promote patriotism and give back to the community.

One of the primary objectives of the Sons is to promote the ideals and principles of the American Legion, including upholding the Constitution and defending the freedom and democracy of the United States. The organization places a strong emphasis on educating its members about the significance of military service and the sacrifices made by veterans throughout history.

Membership in the Sons is open to male descendants of veterans who served in the United States Armed Forces during times of war or conflict. Sons can join at various levels, such as Junior (under the age of 18) or Senior, and they have the opportunity to actively participate in meetings and events, as well as take on leadership positions within the organization.

The American Legion Georgia History of the Sons holds regular meetings and events to connect members, provide support, and plan activities. These gatherings offer a unique opportunity for Sons to bond over their shared heritage and discuss issues affecting veterans and the community.

In addition to supporting veterans and promoting patriotism, the Sons also strive to make a positive impact in their communities. Through various community service projects, such as volunteering at local homeless shelters, organizing blood drives, or fundraising for veterans’ organizations, the Sons work towards improving the lives of others and making a lasting difference in their communities.

The American Legion Georgia History of the Sons are dedicated to remembering and honoring the sacrifices of veterans. They strive to keep the memory of those who served alive and promote a deep respect for their contributions to our nation’s history.
